Even if the high court eventually rules in Willis’ favor, it seems unlikely that she will be able to prosecute Trump, who returns to the White House on Jan. 20.

The Georgia case, which originally included 19 defendants and dozens of charges, was the most sprawling of four criminal cases against the once-and-future President.
The duly formed interim committee is looking into whether new legislation is needed to regulate the practices of district attorneys’ offices in the state, a lawyer argued.
With Trump set to return to the White House in January, the future of the case against the once and future President was already in question.
Fulton County, home to about 11% of the state’s electorate, is a Democratic stronghold where no Republican has even run for district attorney since 2000.
Even with a total of nine counts quashed, 32 counts remain, including an overarching racketeering charge brought against all of the defendants.
