Despite the lack of a formal endorsement, the ex-President’s support combined with strong fundraising and popularity among the GOP’s base have helped make Robinson the GOP’s front-runner for the gubernatorial nomination.
Josh Stein is Jewish and Mark Robinson is Black, and North Carolina has never elected a Governor from either demographic.
On the Democratic side, Attorney General Josh Stein’s gubernatorial campaign had an overwhelming monetary advantage over his four other Primary rivals.
His campaign committee said Thursday that it also had nearly $11.5 million in cash in its coffers entering the new year and had raised nearly $17 million since this election cycle began in early 2021.
Stein’s campaign says other tour stops include Elizabeth City and Asheville, and many points in between.
Stein’s campaign also said it will report to the elections board having $8.2 million in its coffers as of June 30 and raising $11.2 million overall since early 2021.
