One candidate led the first Primary, and had a cash advantage, but bowed out after Trump weighed in against her.
The 13th District, which is just south of Raleigh, was redrawn to exclude a populous portion of Wake County that helped elect Democrat Wiley Nickel in 2022. The new district, which now includes some or all of eight counties, is much more friendly to Republican candidates.
Trump is painting Knott’s opponent as a RINO, while Americans for Prosperity is leaning into sentiments on the economy.
Two of the seats likely to flip from Democratic to Republican have attracted large fields of candidates. A third appears poised to send North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore to Washington.
