Steve Marshall announces bid for Alabama’s U.S. Senate seat

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced Thursday he will be running for U.S. Senate.

The move comes only a day after U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville announced he will be vacating his seat to run for Alabama Governor.

“We’re very blessed in having a leader like Sen. Tuberville to be in the role that he was in,” Marshall told the Washington Examiner.

“Right now, the nation needs strong conservative leadership, somebody that’s going to be able to advance President Trump’s agenda,” Marshall added. “And the work that I’ve done as attorney general, I think, makes it abundantly clear that I’m willing to fight the right battles and to be effective in doing it, and look forward to being able to take that to the Senate.”

In his campaign video, Marshall highlights his support of President Donald Trump, while pointing out the missteps of former President Joe Biden and his administration. Marshall further told the Washington Examiner that he will be seeking an endorsement from the President.

“We’ll absolutely seek his endorsement, but I think one thing that is clear is that we have been one of the strongest supporters of the president on the issues that he has championed,” Marshall said.

Currently in his second term as Alabama’s AG, Marshall is unable to seek a third term due to term limits but said during an interview in March that he would decide quickly whether to join the Senate race if Tuberville decided to run for Governor, according to AL.com.

Jared Hudson, a former Navy SEAL, announced on social media Wednesday that he will be running for Tuberville’s seat.

“From SEAL Team missions to rescuing trafficking victims with Covenant Rescue Group — my entire life has been about service and sacrifice,” Hudson said on X. “Now, I’m stepping up to serve again — as Alabama’s next U.S. Senator. Let’s send a warrior to Washington.”

Other potential Republican candidates that could make a bid for Tuberville’s Senate seat include Auburn University men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl, Alabama state Rep. Barry Moore, former U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl and Alabama House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter, according to The Hill.
