South Carolina secures $55.4M expansion in Spartanburg County

A leading supplier of chassis systems, modules, and assemblies is expanding its operations in Spartanburg County with a $55.4 million investment, Republican Gov. Henry McMaster announced Tuesday.

ZF Chassis Systems Duncan’s investment will create 30 new jobs, expanding on the company’s more than 30-years of experience in chassis assembly, which provides axle system assembly and logistics services for leading global car manufacturers.

“South Carolina’s exceptional workforce continues to allow automotive companies like ZF Chassis Systems Duncan to thrive,” McMaster said in a press release. “We appreciate the company’s latest investment in our state and look forward to the impact these new opportunities will have in the Upstate.”

The company is expanding to a new 477,360-square-foot facility located in Spartanburg to allow for increased production and increased annual output.

ZF Chassis Systems Duncan Plant Manager John Wilson said the company has gladly called South Carolina home for more than 30 years.

“We are pleased to expand our manufacturing footprint in the state while sustaining high-tech manufacturing jobs to meet increasing demand,” Wilson said. “All of us are grateful to the South Carolina Department of Commerce, Coordinating Council for Economic Development, Governor’s Office and Spartanburg County for their continued partnership and support. We are looking forward to building on our long-standing collaboration for many years to come.”

The expansion is expected to be complete and operational in September 2027. The project was supported by a Coordinating Council for Economic Development award of $100,000 to assist with building improvement costs.

Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III celebrated the win for South Carolina’s automotive industry.

“By investing and bringing new jobs to the Upstate, the company is reaffirming its commitment to our state and furthering its legacy here,” Lightsey said.

Spartanburg County Council Chairman Manning Lynch said the expansion cements the company’s commitment to Spartanburg County.

“On behalf of Spartanburg County Council, I congratulate them on their success and thank them for their continued investment in our county.” Lynch said.
