U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace has formally filed a resolution to expel U.S. Rep. Cory Mills, months after demanding his censure.
“The swamp has protected Cory Mills for far too long and we are done letting it slide. We tried to censure him and strip him from his committee assignments. Both parties blocked it, but we are not backing down,” Mace, a Charleston Republican, said.
“The evidence against Mills is overwhelming: beating women and telling them to lie about it, cyberstalking women, lying about his military service, and profiting off his seat. Any Member who votes to keep him here is voting to protect a woman beater and a fraud. He needs to be expelled immediately.”
The move comes as House members push to “clean house” and drive out a number of individuals facing sexual misconduct allegations. In particular, a number of Republican women in the U.S. House have called for accountability for Mills, a Florida Republican, amid a House Ethics Committee investigation. He is accused of alleged domestic violence against a live-in girlfriend in Washington and threatening to release intimate images of another woman who was living with him at his home in New Smyrna Beach Florida.
Mace in November brought a resolution to the House floor to censure Mills, who is also being investigated for allegations he profited from defense contracts in Congress and exaggerated his military record. An investigatory committee in the House is currently looking at the matter, but it remains unclear how long that will take.
But the House ultimately voted to send allegations to the House Ethics Committee instead.
Of note, the House Ethics Committee is also investigating Mace on accusations she took reimbursements from the House for expenses that should not have been covered. She has called the accusations unfounded and from a noncredible source, her former fiancé. NOTUS reports that Mills may be drafting an expulsion resolution for Mace.
Mace suggested online that was retaliatory.
“Because I will not back down from exposing him, he is trying to expel me,” she posted on X. “This is the same person who protected Ilhan Omar when we tried to censure her. The same person who got married in a mosque where 9/11 was planned. The same person who, when questioned by police about bruises on a woman, tried to call Pam Bondi.”
Mills did not respond to several direct messages on Monday.
“Nancy wants you to believe she’s fighting for you, but she’s not. One minute she’s MAGA, the next she isn’t. Nancy Mace is a hypocrite who abuses her power and is an opportunist. She even attacked (President Donald Trump),” he posted. “Call my vote forward Nancy!”
Two members of Congress, Democratic U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell of California and Tony Gonzales of Texas, resigned last week amid sexual misconduct investigations. Meanwhile, the House Ethics Committee is holding a sanctioning hearing on Tuesday after finding U.S. Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, a Florida Democrat, guilty of 25 charges she violated House rules and ethics, and she could be expelled later this week.
