‘More than a figurehead’: Tanya Miller enters race for Attorney General

Georgia Democratic Rep. Tanya Miller will run for Attorney General in next year’s election, the Atlantan attorney announced outside the state Capitol Monday.

Miller is running on a platform that includes cracking down on sex traffickers, online scammers, special interests, and child predators, according to the Georgia Recorder.

Miller currently serves as chair of the House Democratic Caucus and worked as a prosecutor and civil rights attorney for more than 20 years. After being elected unopposed to House District 62 in 2023, Miller worked to address civil rights issues.

Appointed Chief Senior District Attorney in Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, Miller worked as an undefeated homicide prosecutor and advocate for women and children who are victims of crime, according to her lawmaker biography.

Miller said many Georgians are not even aware of what an Attorney General does “because the office has done so little for them.”

“The Attorney General is the people’s lawyer,” Miller said. “And that’s why I’m running, because the people of Georgia need an Attorney General who will stand up and fight for them, no matter what, no matter what part of this great state they call home, no matter their politics, no matter their personal beliefs, no matter what.”

Current Attorney General Chris Carr is not seeking reelection and is running for Governor.

Miller joins former Democratic Minority Leader Bob Trammell in the Democratic Primary. Republican state Sens. Bill Cowsert and Brian Strickland are running on the GOP ticket.

Miller, meanwhile, lamented the current Attorney General is more concerned with national politics than supporting Georgia families.

“While Georgia families were being squeezed by rising costs, scammed out of their savings, worried for their children’s safety and gauged after Hurricane Helene, the Attorney General sat on the sidelines,” Miller said. “Georgians need more than a figurehead full of excuses. They need an attorney general who will fight for them every single day.”
