Monica De La Cruz endorses Donald Trump for President

Citing President Joe Biden’s presidency as a “disaster for our economy, the border, and Hispanics,” Texas Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz is endorsing Biden’s predecessor in the White House — former President Donald Trump — in his bid to get his old job back.

“As a congresswoman and a mother of two children, I’m supporting President Trump in 2024 because he will fight to strengthen our economy, keep our country safe, and make America great again,” she posted to the social media platform X, punctuating the post with an American flag emoji and a graphic with the former President’s headshot announcing her support.

De La Cruz won her seat in Congress last year after defeating Democrat Michelle Vallejo in the open race. Her victory came after redistricting shifted the district into the GOP column, helping De La Cruz sail to a 9-percentage-point victory over the Democrat.

Vallejo is running again in 2024. This time, she is hoping national Democrats who sat largely on the sidelines in her 2022 race will show up to the polls.

De La Cruz represents Texas’ 15th Congressional District, which stretches from the Mexican border in the city of McAllen and north to Guadalupe County.

De La Cruz’s victory last year represented an overperformance compared to Trump who, under the redrawn congressional map, would have only secured victory in 2020 in the district by 3 percentage points.
