A host of Georgia Democrats are backing Vice President Kamala Harris in her race for her party’s nomination for President, a move that comes after current President Joe Biden announced that he was suspending his re-election campaign and endorsing his No. 2.
The endorsements come from elected officials ranking as high as the U.S. Senate, all the way down to state lawmakers and local Mayors.
Harris has already secured enough support from delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, according to a survey of delegates by The Associated Press. The survey found support from 2,887 delegates, far more than the 1,976 needed to clinch the nomination.
However, the AP is not yet referring to Harris as the presumptive nominee because, even if delegates are saying they support Harris, they still technically can vote for whoever they want with the Democratic National Committee holds its vote ahead of the party’s convention next month.
Harris’ Georgia endorsements include:
— U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff: “Vice President Harris is now absolutely the right candidate to defeat Donald Trump and unite our country. @KamalaHarris is prepared, ready to win, & has my full support.”
