Shortly after a report surfaced claiming anti-abortion GOP U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker got a woman pregnant and paid for her abortion, his son, Christian Walker, took to Twitter to call his dad out, saying he would “appreciate if” his father “stopped lying and making a mockery of us.”
“You’re not a ‘family man’ when you left us to bang a bunch of women, threatened to kill us, and had us move over 6 times in 6 months running from your violence,” the 23-year old wrote.
The tweet came in response to a report from The Daily Beast citing a woman who said Walker urged her to have an abortion in 2009 after he got her pregnant. The Daily Beast article didn’t name the woman to protect her identity, but said the information was verified through a friend who said she accompanied the woman to her abortion procedure.
The report also included a “get well” card Walker signed and said the woman provided a receipt from the abortion clinic and a photo of Walker’s $700 check reimbursing her for the cost.
Southeast Politics has not independently verified The Daily Beast report.
In his own tweet, Herschel Walker refuted the news outlets’ story.
“This is another repugnant hatchet job from a democrat activist disguised as a reporter who has obsessively attacked my family and tried to tear me down since this race started,” the elder Walker wrote. “He’s harassed friends of mine, asking if I fathered their children. He’s called my children ‘secret’ because I didn’t want to use them as campaign props in a political campaign.”
He went on to say the report was slanderous and that “they” would “do anything to hold onto power.”
“It’s disgusting, gutter politics,” he concluded.
Herschel Walker wrote that he planned to sue the outlet for defamation and later appeared on Fox News’ Sean Hannity show further refuting claims that he asked a woman to obtain an abortion.
Walker, a Republican, is running to unseat incumbent U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock on a platform that includes anti-abortion stances.
Christian Walker’s tweet storm claimed “every member” of Walker’s family “asked him not to run for office” because they all “knew (some of) his past.”
“He decided too give us the middle finger and air out all of his dirty laundry in public, while simultaneously lying about it,” Christian Walker continued.
Christian Walker wrote that his father “lived a life of DESTROYING other peoples (sic) lives” and accused his father of lying and acting like he was “some ‘moral, Christian, upright man.’”
Herschel Walker, who has backing from former President Donald Trump, has been a vocal opponent to abortion, favoring bans without exceptions for rape or incest, and has criticized absentee fathers, a critique that appears hollow based on his son’s accusations of abuse.
Earlier reporting from The Daily Beast claimed Walker had three additional children. Walker later confirmed he indeed had four children.
Christian Walker’s mom, Cindy DeAngelis Grossman, is no longer married to the elder Walker.
Herschel Walker responded to one of his son’s tweets saying, “I LOVE may son no matter what.”
In his appearance on Hannity, Walker said he sends “money to a lot of people” and that he’s also sent many get well cards. He did not deny either the check or the card came from him.
The younger Walker’s tweets come just over a month before the November 8 General Election, which is being watched nationally as both Democrats and Republicans fight to wrest control over the now-tied U.S. Senate. Warnock’s 2021 election was one of two Georgia Senate races that delivered a tie in the chamber to Democrats, with Vice President Kamala Harris serving as the tie-breaking vote.
This isn’t the first time Herschel Walker has faced negative headlines. He previously claimed to have worked in law enforcement, but never did. He also claimed to have donated a portion of his chicken business profits to charity, despite limited evidence that he did.
