Tax revenue in Georgia increased by $60.3 million in September, bringing the state’s revenue to a total of $3.27 billion.
Revenue in the Peach State increased 1.9% compared to fiscal year 2025, when net tax collections reached $3.21 billion for the month, according to a press release from Republican Gov. Brian Kemp’s office on Tuesday.
Over the past year, net tax revenue collections have increased by $64.5 million, reaching $8.17 billion compared to September 2024, which totaled $8.11 billion.
Individual income tax collections contributed to the increase in revenue, which came to nearly $1.49 billion in September, an increase of $45.4 million, or 3.2%, compared to $1.44 billion during the same month in FY 2025.
Individual income tax refunds issued decreased by $14.8 million or -16.2%, while income tax withholding payments in September increased by $19.9 million or 1.7% from FY 2025.
Meanwhile, individual income tax estimated payments increased by 5%, or $9 million over September 2024, while all other individual tax categories, including tax return payments, were up a combined $1.7 million.
Gross sales and use tax collections for the month totaled $1.59 billion, which was an increase of $45 million, or 2.9%, over September 2024. However, net sales and use tax decreased by a significant $26.7 million, or -3.5%, after reaching a total of $767.7 million last year.
The adjusted sales tax distribution to local governments saw growth of 0.8% or $6.5 million for a total of $780.2 million. Sales tax refunds also increased by $65.2 million over FY 2025.
Corporate income tax collections grew $45.2 million, or 7.6%, from last year’s $597.5 million, which was driven by an $18.8 million (-27.4%) drop in corporate income tax refunds, an $8.2 million (2.1%) increase in estimated payments, and a combined $18.2 million gain in other payments, including corporate return payments.
Motor fuel tax collections increased by $3.6 million (1.8%) from FY 2025’s $200.1 million, while motor vehicle tag and title fees rose by $6.5 million (20.8%). The title ad valorem tax collections declined by $6.7 million, or 8.5%.
In August, tax revenue in Georgia increased by $74.1 million, bringing the state’s revenue to a total of $2.41 billion for the month.
