Georgia lawmakers praise Donald Trump for Iran strikes

More than 100 members of the Georgia House of Representatives signed a resolution Monday, commending President Donald Trump’s commitment to strengthening national security, and his unwavering support of American allies and Georgia’s fallen service members.

Dawsonville Republican state Rep. Brent Cox, who serves as co-chair of the Georgia Israel Legislative Caucus, thanked his colleagues for recognizing Trump’s strong leadership in defending allies against Iranian hostility and confronting terrorism.

“Georgia has felt the heartbreak of losing our own to Iranian-backed attacks, including those carried out by Hamas and other terrorist proxies,” Cox said. “This resolution honors their sacrifice and reaffirms our unwavering support for the people of Israel and for American strength. Georgia stands with our troops, our allies and all who defend freedom — and we remain grateful to God for their service and courage.”

Iran has repeatedly leveraged its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and elite Quds Force to orchestrate terrorism across borders, using groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and Kataib Hezbollah to threaten American forces, Israeli civilians, global trade, and regional peace, the report claims.

In January 2024, a drone strike on Tower 22 in Jordan — attributed to Iranian proxies — claimed the lives of three U.S. Army Reserve soldiers from Georgia: Staff Sgt. William Rivers, Spc. Kennedy Sanders, and Spc. Breonna Moffett.

Sgt. Rose Lubin, an Atlanta native and Israeli Border Police officer, was also killed in Jerusalem in November 2023 amid violence by Iranian-supported terror groups following the October 7 Hamas massacre, according to the resolution.

The resolution comes after the U.S. conducted strategic strikes — dubbed Operation Midnight Hammer — against Iranian nuclear sites in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan.

Officials described the operation as a defensive response to threats posed by Iran’s nuclear weapons program and its backing of terrorist movements.

Newington Republican House Speaker Jon Burns said in a statement that through the operation, the U.S. sent a message of unwavering support for Israel as they defend against the threat of Iranian nuclear capabilities.

“Our nation has remained firm in our resolve that Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon, and I’m proud that a majority of our members in the Georgia House fully support the actions taken by President Trump to put American interests first and deliver peace through strength,” Burns said.

Mulberry Republican Majority Leader Chuck Efstration said in a statement that Georgia House Republicans stand with American allies in the Middle East in opposition to Iran’s increasing aggression.

“Thanks to President Trump’s decisive actions, the Iranian nuclear weapons program has been crippled, and the region is one step closer to peace,” Efstration said.
