When Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump appears with police in North Carolina, Democrats will greet him with reminders of legal woes.
The Democratic National Committee launched a new billboard campaign in the Charlotte metropolitan area. Ads go up around the same time Trump expects to speak to the Fraternal Order of Police in an address to its Board of Trustees.
“Donald Trump has only become more unhinged since fomenting an attack on our democracy and attempting to overturn the will of American voters,” said DNC Spokesperson Kenny Palmer. “Now, he is running on an extreme Project 2025 agenda that would allow him to fulfill his dream of virtually unchecked power.”
One billboard showcases the number of police officers assaulted during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, where Trump supporters sought to disrupt certification of President Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election, and includes in large type the words “Trump 2024 Convicted Felon!”
Another ad spotlights the controversial Project 2025 plan, a blueprint for government created by the Heritage Foundation and other conservative think tanks. That board suggests Trump will eliminate the independence of the Department of Justice, give Trump “virtually unchecked legal power” and allow for an unprecedented level of control of people’s personal lives.
“Trump is a convicted felon who threatens our freedoms and democracy,” Palmer said.
“As District Attorney, Attorney General, Senator and now Vice President, Kamala Harris has taken on criminals and crooks of every stripe in the name of the American people. As Trump looks out for himself and the violent rioters who broke the law in his name, Vice President Harris is running to defend our rights and keep our families safe. Trump believes he is above the law. This November, North Carolinians and voters across the country will send a clear message: he is not.”
