A nationwide conservative advocacy organization is urging support for U.S. Rep. Jen Kiggans as part of a new ad campaign targeting members of Congress in 19 states.
The American Action Network has launched a $7 million issue advocacy effort focusing on policy positions members of Congress have taken on Social Security, Medicare and prescription drug prices.
Kiggans, who represents Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, does not yet have a 2026 opponent. She won re-election last year, defeating Democratic challenger Missy Cotter Smasal by about 4 percentage points.
But Kiggans is likely to draw a challenger ahead of the Midterms. Kiggans’ district is rated competitive as “lean Republican” by Cook Political Report. Democrats actually have a voter registration advantage with more than 45% of voters registered as Democrats, compared to just under 35% who are Republicans, according to the most recent L2 voter data.
The Virginia ad praises Kiggans for her support of policies that help seniors — or opposition to those the group believes do not.
The ad begins with a woman named Judy declaring “there’s a lot of misinformation out there, trying to scare seniors.”
“Trust me, Congresswoman Jen Kiggans is fighting to protect all of us,” she continues over images of Kiggans speaking with an elderly couple.
Judy goes on to say that Kiggans supports President Donald Trump’s “common sense reforms to root out waste, fraud and abuse, fixing the Biden pill penalty,” a reference to a provision in former President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act.
Critics say that measure stamped out innovation by creating a shorter time frame for medications taken orally in pill or capsule form to be on the market before price limits kick in than for drugs such as biologics. Critics of the provision say it is causing drug companies to move away from research and development of pills and instead focus on biologics, typically administered through injections.
Pill and capsules have just nine years before price limits take effect, while biologics have 13.
“Congresswoman Jen Kiggans will always protect seniors,” Judy says to end the ad.
The ad finishes with Kiggans’ Washington office phone number and a call to action to supporters to thank her “for protecting America’s seniors.”
Broadly, the campaign includes broadcast, cable and digital advertising across 30 congressional districts. It will run through the first week of June.
Across the Southeast, ads will also run in Georgia, Kentucky and North Carolina.
“Conservatives in Congress are working hard to protect seniors and preserve health care benefits for all Americans,” American Action Network President Chris Winkelman said. “The proposals Liberal members of Congress support not only increase health care costs but do nothing to root out waste fraud and abuse in government.”
